Here’s another quick question from one of our readers:

Q:

Will syndicating a link to your posts on an established Twitter account improve how quickly those pages get indexed, and are they also more likely to be kept in Google’s main index (not in the dreaded supplemental) and therefore rank a bit better?

A:

Twitter links are no-follow which means search engines don’t follow them – therefore they have no impact on your backlink count or how quickly you get indexed.

They can indirectly generate backlinks (people find a link in a tweet they like & independently blog about it – creating a dofollow backlink).

Twitter’s main strength is as a targeted traffic driver to your website.

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone reported in April that Twitter were serving 600 million search queries per day. Twitter is now serving 800 million searches per day. An increase of 33%

Why?

The main reason is due to the increased acceptability & uptake of Twitter in all circles, not simply personal accounts.

Another reason being that Twitter is probably the quickest, easiest & best way to find out what’s happening (with your brand, product, service or competitors) right now.

So the question is, if you’re not utilising Twitter in your marketing strategy you certainly should be thinking about it!

Formula One Twitter Accounts

Excel Download

I have to confess, I am an F1 nut. Prior to this season I could half understand someone not being interested in Formula one. Especially in the days where Michael Schumacher won everything & there was (it has been argued) little point in the other competitors even showing up.

Not so nowadays. This season sees the two previous world champions (Jenson Button & Lewis Hamilton) battling head-to-head in the same team. Not to mention the other previous world champions in Alonso & of course Schumacher.

There’s also the small matter of top flight drivers in Vettel, Webber, Massa & Rosberg.

The new teams this year (Mercedes [previously Brawn], Lotus, Hispania & Virgin) are providing their own battle amongst themselves for the crown of best of the new constructors. Hulkenberg is driving his socks off and is tipped by many to be a star in the making having won most (all?) of his GP2 races prior to his entrance into F1.

Anyway, now we get to the real point of this post …. As I am an avid Twitter user, I have compiled a list of must-follow Twitter accounts for the drivers, teams, principals & key Journalists so you can follow them minute by minute as this fantastic season unfolds.

This tutorial explains how to easily (and automatically) remove those users you are following that you do not return the gesture and follow you back.
First, you’ll need greasemonkey for firefox

Once you’ve restarted Firefox, visit this userscript page and click install.

Now find your ‘Following‘ list & greasemonkey will highlight the users who aren’t following you in return.

Scroll to the bottom and click ‘Remove Marked’. The script will then cycle throuh automatically removing your unfollowing followed tweeters.
